Now that we have all the pieces to our niche, Tig installed the supports. First I looked for studs in the walls and marked them while Tig predrilled holes. He used a counter-sink, so that the screw heads will set in a little. Then he installed the supports, taking care to line up the screws with the studs.

Then he painted them with the same color paint as the rest of the trim in the room (Devine Icing in trim finish).

I love reading about the crazy things people find - left over from the previous owners - I read with envy, such “Antiques Roadshow” material. HouseinProgress found a red Royal typewriter. While we were not recipients of such treasured items, we did manage to rapidly accumulate a record collection. To start with, Tig had a seed collection of records left over from his college days.

Tig likes to think of himself as an engineer, but I think in the eight years that I’ve known him, there is a budding artist. He loves taking photos. Last year, on our trip to Paris (pre-house), he took this amazing panorama of the Eiffel Tower.

Fine woodworking is not really a “portable” activity. It is best done in a well stocked and correctly set-up workshop. Unfortunately we don’t have a designated space for the shop yet. And I probably won’t get one until a year or more. There are more pressing priorities for our home.
