On Friday, tiling of our bathroom began.
We definitely learned a few things from tiling the first floor bathroom. For one, we decreased the spacing between the tiles, so the grout line would be thinner. I also felt more comfortable in the tiling process. And the tiles are closer to the same plane now. Some of the tiles downstairs are a little wonky, although it’s hard to tell.
Starting to tile is probably one of the most difficult tasks. First, you need to “story pole” the layout. This basically involves making a stick that has markings for where tiles will begin and end. This way, you know what size tile is at the edge of the wall. If you have to cut a sliver of a piece, you move your starting point over to compensate. Larger tile sizes are better than smaller tile sizes.

There’s me admiring the handiwork. To make things a little different from the first floor unit, we added a “rope” lining as a bit of flair.
