Tig’s parents came up today for a family workfest. All in all, we accomplished a lot:

  • Removed cardboard boxes and miscellaneous junk from the attic and hauled them out to the dumpster
  • Tidied the yard a little - Tig’s mom cut the grass and dad used the weed whacker to clean up around the edges. Now we’re not completely bringing down the neighborhood.
  • We found out the extension ladder that the previous owner left under the porch only goes halfway up the house - not long enough…hmmmm
  • Removed nails from bathroom trim in Unit #1 - the worker who put up that original trim wrote “Taylor” on the back.
  • Taped down red rosin paper and laid down masonite board in the hallway before Unit #2 bathroom
  • Put back the toilet in Unit #1 for use while Tig…
  • Started demolition of second bathroom. The floor tile, which sat on a 1 1/2″ mud bed and a layer of wire mesh. Tig demo’d the bathroom, while Mom, Dad and I carried buckets of cement and tile down to the dumpster. The whole thing took about 2 hours.

I have a few videoclips of father-son bonding over bathroom work. We are very grateful for Mom and Dad coming up to help. Work goes a lot faster when there’s a few more hands to help.

Mom brought over their rice cooker and a delicious beef stew for lunch, which we ate on the back porch. After a full day’s work, we washed up and went to Chinatown for dinner.
