I love this picture.

Fast forward two days. When I came home after Tig grouted, I was horrified to see our 1/8″ spacers replaced by 1/4″ of grout. The platinum grey gout, which we special ordered from Home Depot was smeared across the gaps like a bad lipstick application, making the whole effect look cheap. “It’s the renter’s unit,” my General Contractor says.
I was close to tears and thought, If that’s the case, then we should have hired an illegal immigrant to do this and saved us the hours of our precious life. I picked up a scraper and started to remove the extra grout. Tig, seeing that I was obviously upset, drove to Home Depot that night to get a grout saw and carbide scraper. We worked until 11:00pm.
Fixing up our house is often like this, an emotional roller coaster ride. One day we feel great about the work we’ve done, the next day there’s a setback that pushes the finish date three days back…and I’m very upset. Now we know why home renovations take three times as long as scheduled. There’s always something that goes wrong.
