Tig in California (several years ago)

“The weather forecasting is so much better these days. The technology must have improved a lot over the years.”

Tig in Massachusetts (now…every 20 minutes)

“The weather forecast said it was supposed to rain yesterday. Wheeeeeere’s the rain?!?!”

When we lived in California, the weather in the Bay Area was predictable and mild. There was usually a rainy season in February, and you knew what to expect in the various micro-climates (San Francisco foggy, Oakland mostly sunny, Walnut Creek sunny and hot). The hills are strangely green in the winter and brown in the summer. Naturally, Tig was lulled into a false security, believing that the weather forecasters improved their trade significantly.

Now, he’s finding the New England weather to be volatile and unpredictable. Tig checks the forecast before going to bed and again when he wakes up. He also checks it constantly throughout the day. Depending on the forecast, our seedlings may get covered for the night, taken indoors, or left outside to harden off. If it doesn’t rain every few days to fill our rain barrels, he frets about having to use municipal water (more on that later). I’ve never seen a person living in a city so preoccupied with weather!
