Ah privet…They’re definitely not in our landscape master plan. It’s way past its prime, old and straggly and let’s weeds through.  Even Serena’s parents lobbied to have them removed. Now that the icy New England winter has given way to spring, it’s time to put our landscape plan into action. We did changed it a little bit, opting for a low picket fence rather than new hedges.

So the privet hedge gets the boot. I dug up under the roots, pulled them out and shook as much dirt off the roots as possible. Then I tied them up neatly for the town’s yard waste pick-up (where it will be composted).

The rows of privet lining the walkway are now removed. The front privet (far left of picture) will be removed right before I install the cedar fence (which will hopefully be coming in this week).

Next up, the walkway.
