The previous owners had tiled around the upper cabinets to form the backsplash. With those cabinets gone, I now need to even out the tiles. I’m going to remove the top row of tiles (where the cutouts are) and replace with a row of white bullnose tiles.
First, I laid out the necessary tools. From left to right, they are: a utility knife, a grout scraper, a putty knife, a five-in-one tool (found in paint stores) and a simple hammer.
The old tiles get chipped out with the putty knife.
Here’s the left side, finished. Note that the lid of garbage can comes in real handy for catching most of the debris of this mini renovation work.
Here’s a close up of the right side.
Next step, installing the bullnose tiles.
I was going to use thin-set mortar to set the tiles, but unfortunately, my trowel seems to be missing. I think I left in DC at a friend’s place after working on her tile backsplash. And I don’t have any mastic in the house. Fortunately I’ll use the versatile Liquid Nails adhesive. A squirt, and then set, it’s done. A few cuts on the wet saw and some more liquid nails, and it’s all set.

Sorry Tig, we’ll see if the trowel is somewhere around and bring it back to you…

I wondered what you were going to do to hide that! It looks good.
