Hmmm, I could’ve sworn I took a picture of the nightstand “before”, but can’t seem to find it anywhere. Oh well. There is a great thrift store nearby that we like to frequent. A month ago, I picked up a $12 nightstand. Kinda ugly, made of particleboard, and had some ugly hardware.

Tig, bless his heart, removed the hardware and filled in the holes with 1/4 inch dowels. Today, I was able to sand and prime the nightstand. Here it is primed.

After the primer dried, I lightly sanded it with medium grit sandpaper and wiped it down. For the drawer pull, I used a surplus glass knob from the basement. Also, the inside drawer was painted a using a sample jar of color from Benjamin Moore. We had a collection of tiny sample jars, back in the days when I agonized over paint colors. Now that my palette has been greatly reduced, I can use up the samples in small, unexpected places. It’s a nice surprise to pull open the drawer and see color.

Here’s the final product; not too bad for a thrift store find.

The best part is that I have a nightstand again. I’ve been making do with piles of books or a chair next to the bed for the past year. It will be nice to be able to have a place to put some books and extra stuff.
