Tig had some help today blocking up the floors of the first unit bathroom. The carpenter that our GC consultant recommended was very skilled. He was able to make straight cuts with a circular saw (no guide necessary). He was also adept at using a reciprocating saw with a fair amount of precision. The result, we have a level subfloor for the bathroom, with reinforced joists below.
Speaking of floors, I am very excited to see the second unit floors being refinished. A colleague of mine recommended this vietnamese floor refinisher (apparently, large percentage of floor refinishers around Boston are vietnamese - which I did not know before). Tom removed 2 bags of sawdust from our floors, which were in bad shape when the previous owner left. There were obvious darker spots where rugs have been, gouges, scratches and nails that were creeping up. We had a first coat of semi-gloss and a second coat of glossy polyurethane applied. On Friday, Tom is scheduled to come and buff the floors and apply the final coat of semi-gloss. Then on Tuesday, the movers are coming to get our furniture over to our new home.
