I’m very picky when it comes to fixing up the home. Probably more so than Serena, but my thoughts and ideas are somewhat scattered. I like things to look nice, but I just ramble on about things without a clear focus. That’s where Serena comes in.
Although not currently a designer by occupation, Serena did get a bachelor’s degree in design. She’s very articulate with her thoughts and ideas about the home (unlike me - even my posts seem like rants). Just read her previous posts, like the one about the bedroom. And how cool is her sketch of the study? I digress. The point is, she’s awesome.
But…
Some of those design ideas lead to more work for me. For instance, the “old fashioned” shelves in the study closet. Her design background suggests consistency should be maintained throughout the house. Sounds like a good idea. It’s actually a great idea. But each one of those shelf rails had to be routed with a straight bit and then a round-over bit. Then they had to be mitered, etc. You get the point. Lots more woodworking. And without a shop, lot’s more time setting up the portable equipment, just to be able do some of the work.
In the end though, the overall outcome looks great. And although I hate to say it, she’s right.
Serena’s always right.
