Winter is quickly coming. And we don’t live in California anymore
For most older homes, the biggest area of heat loss comes from the attic. Usually it is not insulated and/or not sealed well. I’m in the process of sealing it by using duct board and that instant-foam-in-a-can stuff to block all the holes. Sealing around the chimney is pain because you need to use metal flashing and heat resistant caulk.
But soon the attic will be sealed and time for insulation. Well I did buy all the insulation already. And it only took a couple of trips to the big box store, and you’d be surprised at how much insulation can fit into a Chevy Tracker.

There’s actually 8 rolls of insulation there. 6 are inside the car (4 are below the window line), and the other 2 on the roof. That’s over 700 square feet of 6″ insulation. Needless to say, when a car is this full of insulation, you can’t really use the rear-view mirror effectively.
And as I was loading the car (which easily took 1/2 hour or more), a passerby commented “that’s one way to insulate your car.”
